Studying and working abroad.
There are many reasons to spend a longer period of time in a foreign country. It is something entirely different to go somewhere for a two week vacation or to actually live there for several months or years. A short period might give a slight idea but to really get to know a country and it’s people more time is necessary.
What does it mean to “know” a country? This “knowledge” goes way beyond having seen some of the cities or countryside. Things that are really important are the countries culture, language and the people that live there. While spending months in a country you will be able to learn the language, learn about the culture and to meet the locals.
Not surprisingly many people dream of going abroad. As we all know it’s not always easy to realize your dreams – but that does not mean it isn’t possible. One way to go abroad for an extended period of time is to study in another country. This adds several important points to the aforementioned benefits of living abroad. One of the additional benefits is as obvious as it is crucial: you can boost your academic career by studying at a university in a country other than the one you were born in.
Furthermore future job opportunities will benefit immensely. The fact alone that someone went to a foreign country and managed to get around there signifies the ability to adapt to new situations. And human resources directors everywhere know and value this ability, whatever the line of business might be. Also, the interaction with people from a different coulture broadens the horizon, which can be an important personal influence.
